"We booked Sierra for our Juneau wedding photos and WOW! Are we ever happy we did!! Not only is she an amazing photographer (that's clear from her website), but she managed to make us feel relaxed and comfortable, and we had fun!! (and that's saying a lot because we do not usually enjoy having our photo taken lol). Thank you so much Sierra for making the whole process simple, for going over and beyond, and for perfectly capturing us!!!"
Traditionally, eloping referred to running away and getting married in secret. However, times have changed. Today, an elopement is considered a non-traditional, intentional, and intimate way of getting married. This could mean just the two of you and a witness, or it could mean you two and a small group of your loved ones.
Some couples still elope in secret. Some announce their plan to elope ahead of time. Most eloping couples have a private ceremony followed by an epic adventure, while some host a larger reception for loved ones at a later date.
An adventure wedding is a wedding that takes place in a beautiful, often outdoor location where the experience itself is part of the celebration. Sometimes that means traveling to a dream destination with your loved ones, and other times it’s somewhere closer to home that feels special to you. Adventure weddings often follow the same general flow as traditional weddings, but with more freedom, flexibility, and space to explore. Designed for couples who want their day to feel authentic and immersive, these celebrations might unfold on a beach, in a forest, or on an island — where the journey to get there becomes part of the story.
Adventure weddings and elopements share the same heart — both are intentional, experience-focused ways to get married that move away from tradition. The main difference comes down to scale and how you celebrate. Elopements are usually more intimate, often just the couple or a few loved ones, while adventure weddings tend to include a larger guest list and a bit more structure — like a ceremony setup, dinner, or dancing.
Adventure weddings often include shared celebrations like a reception-style dinner, while elopements lean toward more private celebrations such as stargazing or kayaking. Both honor freedom, connection, and the beauty of nature — and there’s plenty of overlap between the two!
That’s entirely up to you! I don’t have a strict guest count limit like many elopement photographers do, and I’m just as happy photographing an intimate ceremony with a handful of loved ones as I am a destination wedding with 100+ guests. Most elopements typically include between 2–20 people — just enough to share the moment without losing the intimacy and freedom that make elopements so special. Any more than that, and I would consider it an adventure wedding.
My goal is always to help guide you toward a day that feels perfectly aligned with you, not one shaped by others’ expectations. And if I ever feel that your vision might be better served by another photographer or approach, I’ll let you know.
This is one of the best parts about eloping — you can do whatever the heck you want! You can elope close to home or across the world. Think about what feels most you: mountain peaks, ocean cliffs, forests, or something totally unexpected. Start by asking yourselves — do you have a favorite place, a spot that holds meaning, or a destination you’ve always dreamed of visiting?
From there, I’ll help you narrow it down based on accessibility, season, permits, and travel logistics to find the perfect spot that fits your vision. I specialize in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and Iceland weddings — but I’m always up for an adventure wherever your heart leads.
I’m so stoked to get to know you and help bring your wedding dreams to life! Getting started is easy — just fill out the contact form below and tell me a bit about you two and your vision. Within 48 business hours, I’ll send a personalized pricing guide and a link to book a discovery call.

I'm a mother of two crazy boys, dog mom to staffy dogs, and wife to my high-school sweetheart. I'm a day-dreamer, dream-chaser, and I like to romanticize life's little moments. I call everyone dude, you can find me dancing to whatever song is currently stuck in my head, and I will wade in freezing water to get THE shot for you. When you work with me, you can expect to dance, run, piggyback, motorboat, swear, laugh, and get messy.
