If you’re traveling to Alaska with a surprise proposal in mind, Juneau, Alaska should be at the top of the list. Especially for those with adventurous hearts! With its proximity to picturesque mountains, blue flowing glaciers, and abundant wildlife, Juneau is the total package. The best time to visit Juneau is late spring and summer when the days are warm, and the wildflowers bloom. It is also the best time to do whale watching (though the whale statue is up year round)! When Tyler reached out to me to plan his surprise proposal in Juneau, Alaska, he told me he used to come here as a kid and that he couldn’t think of a better place to propose. Tyler and Nikki were already planning a trip with his family and their best friends during the 4th of July, which was a perfect cover for his plan. Christina and Lucas’ session took place at Nugget Falls Waterfall in Juneau Alaska. Nugget Falls is a large and epic waterfall located in the Mendenhall Valley right next to the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau Alaska. It is one of the most scenic locations in Juneau Alaska, whether you’re getting your photo taken, or taking photos yourself. In this blog post I will share a little bit more about Nugget Falls, how to get there, and things you need to know before you go.

For Asya’s snowy maternity session, I wanted to give her both those beautiful outdoor winter maternity photos as well as some tasteful and timeless intimate maternity photos. First, we rented the gorgeous Jorgensen House, one of our favorite BNBs in historic downtown Juneau Alaska. Then we added this amazing dress from Leah Maria Couture to the client closet, which fit her perfectly. For the cherry on top, we hired the very talented Devyn Reece to do her hair and makeup. After staying nice and warm inside the BNB, we travelled outdoors into the snow (note that if you book a session with me, we will inevitably end up in the wild). They pulled up their xtratuf boots, snuggled up to stay warm, and caught snowflakes on their tongues.

When fireweeds bloom depends on the weather and climate. Summers are unpredictable in southeast and southcentral Alaska, especially with global warming trends; some summers there is hardly any clear warm days, and some summers there are weeks of high temperatures and droughts. On average though, the fireweeds bloom anytime between early July through mid-September
